Foster Homes

Foster families are the heart of our adoption program. As a foster, you open your home to a greyhound who is just beginning their transition from racing life to life as a beloved pet. During their stay, you provide a safe, supportive environment where they can decompress, build confidence, and learn everyday routines. Foster families help observe health and behavior, while also reinforcing important skills like leash walking and house manners. It’s in these homes that greyhounds truly start to understand what it means to be part of a family.

Fostering is an incredibly meaningful—and often joyful—experience. While it can be bittersweet to say goodbye when your foster is adopted, there’s a deep sense of pride in knowing you played a vital role in their journey and helped make room for the next hound in need.
Most foster placements last about 2-3 weeks. Some greyhounds may need a longer stay due to age, medical needs, recovery from injury, or behavioral adjustment. Before you take in a foster, we’ll talk through your availability and time commitment so expectations are clear. In most cases, foster families care for their greyhound until they are adopted into their forever home.
