Lost, Loose, or Found Greyhounds - Past Cases
The following is a list of cases where we’ve publicly posted for assistance or to inform. Some cases last only a short time and are resolved in hours or even minutes. But cases lasting for weeks also begin with a period of minutes and hours -- so we promptly jump on them all since we don't know what we're in for.
We handle several calls a year that are not included here, such as:
-
Someone found and is holding a dog. We locate the owner, or, barring that, have a foster home collect the dog and let authorities know what we're doing.
-
Found collars and tags; we, of course, notify the owner.
-
Lost property or other issues encountered by travelers of a certain dog-themed bus company.
-
Wrong numbers.
-
Occasional calls from out-of-state where someone happens to reach us for a local greyhound issue - and we of course, connect them as best we can.
Dates and headlines can help find cases which might involve extreme cold, travel, holidays, trapping a dog, etc. -- but also general circumstances of escapes (spoiler alert: The number one way greyhounds get loose is through open gates). Another type of call is of a loose greyhound, with no reports of once missing nor anyone having caught it.
We try to maintain all public information about a case in a single post and comments to the group’s Facebook page. More detailed information was previously posted to a private discussion page.
All cases are in Wisconsin unless a state abbreviation is mentioned in parenthesis.
Some cases were managed by other adoption groups, which you’ll see in the posts.
